Description
The Leica APO-Summicron-M 2.0/90mm ASPH. was officially introduced in 1998 and is still available in the current Leica M lens system.
So why such a lens within our collector's items? As so often … small, almost inconspicuous details make the difference!
Apart from the approx. 500 to 1,000 pieces of this lens in black lacquered version and a few hundred with titanized surface finish, the extremely short silver-chrome finish available in a few special models, there are no special designs.
What makes our APO-Summicron-M 2.0/90mm ASPH. so incredibly special and extremely rare is that it is a lens from Canadian pre-series production!
Only 12 lenses were produced by Leica in the Canadian plant in Midland, Ontario and these lenses were built either as pure prototypes or as so-called pre-series for technical testing before series production.
Regular production then took place at Leica in Solms and currently at the plant in Wetzlar.
Only the engraving on the back of the lens barrel provides an indication of what a special and unique lens you are holding in your hands.
So far, we have seen only two of these lenses. How many of the only 12 prototype/pre-series lenses still exist is uncertain.
Our APO-Summicron-M 2.0/90mm ASPH. pre-series lens is in mint and unchanged original condition!
Total production: only 12 pre-series lenses!
