Description
The Elmar 3.5/5cm lens is one of the first Leica lenses and was used in the Leica I (Model A) from 1926. From 1930, the lens was offered with an interchangeable mount and was adapted to the associated Leica I camera. In the following year, the successor version was standardized and from 1932 the Elmar 3.5/5cm was also coupled with the rangefinder of the camera.
In the further lifespan of the lens, various changes were made, for example to the aperture row, the surface coating and the last two versions from 1951 had a changed optical design.
An often missed and apparently only during the war years and shortly after the resumption of production from 1946 model variant of the Elmar 5cm is also rarely offered.
With these lenses, the distance scale is divided into significantly smaller steps. Elmar lenses of this type can be found partly with and partly without military engravings.
The Elmar 3.5/5cm was manufactured from 1926 to 1959 and, due to its high optical performance, it gained an early reputation for being THE standard lens for the Leica camera.
And even today, the Elmar 5cm is regarded as the classic Leica lens, which has contributed significantly to the success of the Leica camera models.
For sale is an Elmar M39 3.5/5cm with a finely divided focus scale from 1949.
The technical and cosmetic condition is good to very good.
