Description
The Elmarit-M 2,8/28mm appeared in the middle of 1969 and had a much less protruding rear element compared to the predecessor. A further difference from the previously build lens with the same name was that the optical design now only consisted of eight elemnts, instead of nine, and the new design should have a slight increase in optical performance.
The main reason for the new computation of the Elmarit-M 2,8/28mm was however the necessity to create a lens which did not affect the exposure measurement through the lens integrated in the planned Leica M5 camera body which was introduced in 1971.
The result of the recompution of the Elmarit M 2,8/28mm turned out so well that another modification took place only 10 years later.
Lenses below serial number 2314921 cannot be used on the Leica Cl and has to be modified for use on the Leica M5!
