The Summicron 2.0/50mm is for collectors and photographers alike the reference lens in the Leica  system. This is the lens that all other Leica lenses are measured by.
First available in 1953 and still to this day an essential element of the Leica lens assortment, the Summicron-M 2.0/35mm has been optically and mechanically redesigned four times in the course of the decades since its first appearance.
Each of these four versions share the same high standards for exceptional optical performance that continued to make this lens the reference for all full format/35mm standard lenses.

That said, the difference in performance between the various versions is in some cases relatively small. It wasn’t until the presentation of the APO-Summicron-M 2.0/50mm ASPH. in 2014 that Leica was able not only to set new standards for optical and technical performance, but to build arguably the best 50mm standard lens on the market. But it all started with the Summicron-M 2.0/50mm rigid!

The Summicron-M 2.0/50mm „rigid“ offered here belongs to the second version. It was available from 1956 to 1968, mainly with the M bayonet mount. The M39 screw mount version was only available from 1960 to 1963 and is very rare.
Also, the much acclaimed „Dual Range“ Summicron with Near Focusing Range belongs to this type and shares the same optical design.

All variants have in common a very fine, nuanced color rendering and a very high imaging performance even under today's standards.
