LEICA M Lenses

LEITZ Super-Angulon-M 4/21mm chrome

No.:
1604704

The Super Angulon 4.0/21mm was the first extreme wide-angle lens available for the Leica M series. The lens was produced by Schneider Kreuznach for Leica, the optical formular was designed by Schneider and the Super Angulon was from 1958 to 1963 with both M-bayonet and with screw thread mount available. The lens was apparently produced only from 1958 to 1959 and the stock then sold until 1963.
A special feature of the M version is that it is built on a screw thread mount chassis with factory fitted bayonet adapter.

The unusually compact lens was replaced in 1963 by the Super Angulon M 3.4/21mm, which was only available with M-bayonet and has a slightly increased initial opening, as well as an increase in optical performance.

The compact dimensions and good image quality are impressive even from today's point of view and it is a pleasure to take pictures with this lens.
The color contrast is slightly lower than in the next version which can be used deliberately as a creative stylistic device.

The main applications of the Super Angulon lens are architecture, advertising and landscape photography.

The offered Super-Angulon-M 4/21mm comes from the year 1958 and belongs to the first regular produced batch. It is in very good to mint condition and comes with front cap and the hardly offered plastic container especially made for this lens!
