LEICA M "Ara Guler" limited edition No. 40/50
The Leica M "Ara Güler" Edition is a limited edition of only 50 pieces from 2016, which was created in honor of the well-known Turkish Leica photographer Ara Güler.
The set consists of a black lacquered Leica M (type 240) with matching black lacquered Summicron-M 2.0 / 35mm ASPH. and black painted lens hood. The camera bears the engraving of Ara Güler on the top cap and was offered exclusively through the Turkish Leica distributor.
The list price of the edition was about € 20.000.
Ara Güler was born on August 16, 1928 in Istanbul and was one of the most important photographers worldwide during his lifetime. Among other things, he was named "Master of the Leica" in 1962 and in 1999 he received the Turkish award as "Photographer of the Century".
Ara Güler, who works for the Magnum agency, received the Leica Hall of Fame Award in August 2016 and was honored with a major exhibition at Photokina 2016.
In October 2018, Ara Güler died at the age of 90. The journalist and photojournalist, who became known as "Photograph of Istanbul", left behind unique and impressive photos of his hometown and an impressive exhibition of portraits of prominent personalities such as Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, Henri Cartier-Bresson, the director Alfred Hitchcock, the actress Sofia Loren as well as the politicians Willy Brandt and Winston Churchill.
